7am Out to the paddock
Our day starts at 7am, when all dogs are let out to the grass paddock to do their business.
All dogs are free to go in and out during the night to their own private, concrete, covered area.
Some dogs don't get on with other dogs, so they're taken out on their own. If your dog gets on with other dogs, we'll let them out together, as it's good for dogs to socialise, but they're supervised at all times while in the paddock.
8am Breakfast time
Normally at this time we wear headphones in the kennels, because as soon as they see the feeding bowls they suddenly become very vocal, basically telling us to hurry up with the breakfast!
10am Playtime
Some dogs, like Collies and Retrievers, will chase a ball or stick all day long, while others just prefer to stroll around sniffing everything and anything.
Some dogs don't mind playing in the rain, while others take a step outside and say "No thanks, if you think I'm going to get wet, you are mistaken!" and disappear back into their warm kennel.
12.30 & 3pm Playtime and puzzles
It's playtime again, but we also give dogs puzzles with treats hidden inside, so their brain has to work out which door the treat is behind.
It's always fun for us watching the dogs trying to figure it out. From experience, Border Collies are super intelligent and normally have the treats gone in seconds.
5.30pm Dinner time
Some dogs are picky eaters, especially if they're new to kennels.
A simple trick we use if a dog doesn't eat is to mash a tiny piece of sardine at the bottom of the bowl and put their food on top, with maybe a tiny piece of grated cheese sprinkled on top. Works every time.
7.30 & 10pm Bedtime
Dogs are let outside to play and do their business before bedtime at 10pm.
In case you think we've an easy life, in between these times we spend our day shovelling up dog poo 10 times a day, power-hosing and disinfecting kennels, preparing food, cutting grass, washing bowls and so on. Ah, it's a dog's life, but we love it!
